Aycock Birthplace presents Travel Through Time! FREE Admission Ever wonder how things were made before the advent of electrical tools such as drills and saws? Or what was used to carry items before tote bags? Then visit Aycock Birthplace Saturday, July 15, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. You will travel through time to see woodworking using 19th century tools and learn how baskets were handwoven. Donations are appreciated for this free program. Found off the beaten path two miles south of Fremont, the Gov. Charles B. Aycock Birthplace historic site features a mid-19th century farmstead that includes a house, kitchen and outbuildings. Period pieces furnish the house and an 1893 one room schoolhouse moved to the site represents the grassroots statewide educational revival led by Gov. Aycock after his election in 1900.
