American Indian artisans (pottery, wampum jewelry, textile art. carved dough bowls, watercolors, photography, First People Heritage print, etc.) will set up at the Market Place where Tuscaroran Chief Hunt, Ms. Coharie and Teen Miss Coharie, dressed in regalia, will be greeting visitors. Flutes, drums, and dancers will be demonstrating and inviting you to join in the dances at the grassy lot across the street.
Local artists from the market will fill the porch at Plum Tree Bed & Breakfast (109 South George Street) with baskets, pottery, textile art, homemade soap etc. Produce vendors will provide special food items throughout the day. We are grateful to the Arts Council of Wayne County, who will help sponsor the event through a grassroots grant from the Arts Council of North Carolina.
Grandpa's Children, Inc. under the direction of Dreamweaver offers the farmers' market and community gardens as a community project. Plots for gardening and vendor spaces with canopies, tables, and chairs are offered at no charge to any interested Wayne County resident. Local produce, fine arts & crafts, and home produced items are sold. Currently, the Wayne School of Engineering is preparing 10 plots for their Fall gardens.
