Wayne Community College will hold an open house Thursday, March 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"We invite prospective and former students, friends of the college, and those who are simply curious to stop by and look around," said WCC President Kay Albertson. "We’ve grown in buildings and programs and we’d like for people to come see for themselves. They’ll probably be surprised; there really is something here for everyone."
The public is invited to drop in, tour the campus and see the new buildings, and discover all the college has to offer, from free seminars for entrepreneurs and special courses for mature students to basic literacy classes and arts and cultural programs. Prospective students can learn about programs of study in both the college credit and continuing education areas, financial aid, transfer opportunities, campus resources, scholarships, the admissions process and much more.
Several program areas have planned special presentations and guests for Thursday night's event. Those include opportunities to meet with a representative of Snap-On Tools' Vocational Education Discount Program; attend a mini solid modeling and prototype seminar; be among the first to learn about the new Honors Program; and see demonstrations of manual lathes and mills, robotics, GPS/GIS, and more.
In addition to displays and tours of the college’s nursing and dental facilities, the curriculum allied health programs (dental hygiene and assisting, medical assisting, practical and associate degree nursing and
phlebotomy) will hold an hour-long information session at 5:30 p.m. on March 13 and again at noon on March 14.
Group tours have been arranged for high school students on Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Students who wish to attend the Open House with their schools must complete a permission form and return it to their guidance offices.
Parents are welcome to attend the open house, too, to learn about all that is available for their children - and themselves - and the processes connected with going to college "This is a unique opportunity to meet the personnel who will be working with your child and ask questions face-to-face in a one-stop-shopping setting," said counselor Janice Fields Johnson. "We hope folks will take advantage of this once-a-year event."
