Do you know what’s under your kitchen sink?
Chances are, there’s something under there that could be hazardous to your health and the environment. Even an innocent container of bathroom cleaner becomes a hazard if it isn’t disposed of properly.
And waste that isn’t disposed of properly comes back as contaminated water. That’s why Wayne County will be holding a Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, June 5 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Wayne County Landfill.
It’s free for Wayne County residents.
All you have to do is collect any old bottles of cleaner, paint thinner or other household hazardous materials such as: pesticides, brake fluid, solvents, rat poison, kitchen cleaners, powder cleansers, batteries, gasoline, degreasers, lacquer, pool chemicals, kerosene, mothballs, bathroom cleaners, wood preservative, spray cans, metal polish, spot removers, paint/paint thinner, oven cleaners, nail polish/remover, paint stripper, upholstery cleaners, mercury debris, drain cleaners, antifreeze, furniture polish, tile cleaners, herbicides and motor oil.
What is household hazardous waste? It is a material that has already been used or can no longer be used. If not disposed of properly, it can pose a threat to human health and the environment.
So pack refuse up and leave materials in their original containers, but separate different types of waste. If items are not in original containers and you know what’s in them indicate it with a marker or label made of masking tape.
