The 10th annual Mount Olive College Literary Festival is scheduled for April 6-7. The event will feature Authors John Hoppenthaler and Peter Makuck.
John Hoppenthaler and Peter Makuck will be the featured authors on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:00 PM in the Hennessee Room of the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. Hoppenthaler's books of poetry include Lives Of Water and Anticipate the Coming Reservoir. Hoppenthaler is assistant professor of creative writing and literature at East Carolina University and is currently serving his second term as the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for Eastern North Carolina.
Makuck grew up in Connecticut and graduated from St. Francis College in Maine where he studied French and English. After teaching French for several years, he returned to graduate school for a doctorate in American literature and was later a Fulbright lecturer in France. His Long Lens: New & Selected Poems was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He has also published two collections of short stories, Breaking and Entering and Costly Habits; the latter was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, also listed by The Dictionary of Literary Biography in the "Top Ten Story Collections of 2002." Founder and editor of Tar River Poetry from 1978 to 2006, he is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at East Carolina University.
