Run for the Fallen
Run for the Fallen is designed to bring awareness to the military members that have given their lives in America's wars. This is part of a national effort, where individuals are running from California all the way to Arlington National Cemetary in remberance of our troops.
Our local run will begin at 8 AM at the intersection of Hwy 13 east and I95 in Cumberland County. We will meet and begin in the parking lot of the Days Inn hotel. Release forms will need to be signed there. Teeshirts will be available for a $25 donation. The run will continue for 54 miles and stop at the Lenoir County line on Saturday afternoon, starting at that point on Sunday morning at 8 AM. Sunday, the run will continue until we finish at the Give2thetroops center in Greenville. The runners/walkers will place a flag at each mile with a tag identifying the fallen hero that mile is being run for. Runners/walkers can run/walk multiple miles. Platoons and military groups are welcome to run as a group to honor their fallen buddies. We are hoping that runners/walkers turn out for each mile along the way. There will be some miles with 2 heroes for each mile, with 2 flags being put out on the side of the road. We have contacted law enforcement and city/county officials along the way who will provide assistance.
Everyone is welcome to come to the Greenville Give2thetroops Center at the end of the day on Sunday for refreshments and to learn more about Give2thetroops. We also have 2 memorial walls with stars painted on the walls signifying each fallen hero. You are welcome to choose a star and name that star for any fallen troops.
We still need volunteers to help with providing rides back to cars for runners/walkers, and also to pass out water along the way. Anyone who wishes to participate but cannot run, is welcome to walk, ride a bicycle or even drive the route in honor of a fallen hero. You can also run more then a mile for more then one hero.
Please help us distribute this information. Runners/walkers are welcome to participate and help remember the duty, commitment and bravery of these who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this mission.
